Flashlight LED is a simple app that allows you to use the cameras LED light of your Android phone as a flashlight.

On some devices, Flashlight LED is able to provide you with two levels of brightness, on some only with one level.

Unfortunately some devices are not supported at all, on those devices the app will turn the screen of your Android phone white and to maximum brightness. In future version I might integrate the possibilty to change the brightness if it is requested.

I cannot ensure that the following list of supported and not supported devices is correct as the list is extracted from my comments on the Android Market. Also is in most cases the Android version was not included, which makes the list even less reliable, as it might change whether or not the app works on a specific device, depending on the Android version on your phone.

Supported devices:

  • HTC Desire – Android 2.1 & 2.2 – two brightness levels
  • Nexus One – Android 2.2.1 – one level
  • T-Mobile G2 / Android G2 – Android 2.2 – two levels
  • Droid X – Android 2.2 – one level
  • Droid 2 – Android 2.2 – one level
  • HTC Incredible – Android 2.2 – two levels
  • HTC Desire HD – Android 2.2 – two levels
  • HTC Evo 4G – Android 2.2 – two levels.
  • HTC Wildfire – Android 2.1 & 2.2 – two levels
  • Motorola Milestone
  • Motorola Defy
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X10 mini pro – Android 2.2

Unsupported devices:

  • Samsung All Models
  • HTC Legend
  • LG Ally
  • HTC Droid Incredible (- Android 2.1 ?)
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X10 mini pro – Android 2.1

Please leave a comment, including device name, Android version and Flashlight LED version, so I can updated the list of supported and unsupported devices. Thank you!

Information about the permissions:

This app requests the following permissions:

  • android.permission.INTERNET – used by Admob to deliver ads
  • android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION – used by Admob to deliver location aware ads, which I personally prefer, better than getting ads fom the Mars though you are actually on Planet Earth
  • android.permission.FLASHLIGHT – obvious one
  • android.permission.CAMERA – needed for Froyo and later, as you need to access the camera to access the LED, be assured I don’t take any picture or do any other stuff

Disclaimer:

This app doesn’t do anything what it isn’t supposed to do, which is actually to turn on the LED light if your device is supported. Also you should know that using this light for a very long time probably isn’t good for the LED.
